I mean no disrespect to God with this title. In fact after reading that statement, you might think I’m a little loopy if you didn’t already; but give me a chance to explain. Before the race I thought communion was just something to be done for believers in church when there is something big to celebrate like Easter or Christmas, but that was apart of my religious mindset. Religion draws lines between us and God and between myself and non believers, but grace tears down the dividing walls which is what communion is, a celebration of grace in the form of Jesus.

Where does this fruit loop come into play you might ask? Well doing a women’s retreat we pictured who God is to us. One of my squad mates saw God as judgement. In her drawing there appeared to be a wall between her and him a wall that represented anger, disappointment, shame, etc. It was in that instant that my friend stopped and explained that God is not a God of judgement, but a God of grace. In fact he chooses to never remember our sins( Hebrews 8:12). We are not celebrating a dead Jesus, but a risen Jesus that already conquered sin and death so the we may have new life. Jesus sits in heaven and constantly intercedes for us and gives us constant renewal and revelations through our life trails. Jesus Christ being raised proves that any claim sin had against you is fully settled. (Romans 6:14)

It was then that we took what was on hand, fruit loop and water and celebrated Jesus. We thanked him that we are not defined by what we do but rather by Jesus himself and what he already did for us. And now I realize I get to freely celebrate that whenever I want to, with whom I want to, and with whatever I want to. Since then I have taken  communion with a a goldfish, protein bar, cookie, bacon, and taco soup.

Lately I have been on fire for Jesus and living in the grace he freely gives us and what better way to celebrate it than through communion?! I want to welcome all to the table of grace and to enjoy the favor of all people with glad and sincere hearts praising God.
