 Hey friends!!

I wanted to introduce you to my jungle family!

Most important is Kyle! Aka-Clayton (killer of animals)

What a women who we summoned from the jungle and earned her keep after we saw her catch and eat 4 mice, 3 geckos, and 2 cockroaches in the first 24 hours of knowing her. 2 of the mice were babies we found in Hanna’s bed…. haha. Also the sand we use to mix concrete has become her own personal litter box lol.

Tanka  aka -Terk (monkey Tarzan’s bff)

Is our personal body guard as he protects anyone who chooses to go on walks or runs. For his service he also gets to be our personal garbage disposal as he finishes our left overs.

Will -aka Tantor (elephant)

A father and Daughter of a 5 years old, but is a kid at heart with constant energy. Eager to learn English and always ready with a smile to cheer someone up.

Victor

Probably most like Tarzan as he is a man of few words and likes to do things on his own. When he isn’t busy being a show off he is constantly working hard and puts his whole heart into the work here. When I had a stomach ache he tromped off in the middle of the night used a machete to chop down some Guava leaves and made me tea to help me get better.

Rosita aka-Kala (Tarzan’s mom)

Is our prayer warrior. She prays without ceasing and has a strong Holy Spirit influence. She has a heart for the community and leads women’s ministry every Saturday.

Tony  aka- Doc Archimedes Q. Porter

Most like doc as he can be a little scatter brain, but is a man of many jokes and ever revolving ideas. He brings everyone together and makes sure God is always at the forefront of our mind.

María Elena aka Jane

Speaks the least amount of English, but still talks to us and loves us all anyways through her interactions. She is our new cook from Nicaragua and is a mother of 4. Prayers for her as her oldest of 21 is watching over siblings as young as 6 years old.

What typical weeks in the jungle look like:

Every day wake up to monkey howls and gorgeous morning sunrise at 5:45am.

The fun stuff aka ministry…

Wednesday-Friday

Scavenger for our own food like guava, coconut, corn, oranges with machetes and meanwhile obtaining more bug bites than you can count lol. Eating the food you found at dinner while Geckos landing on you lol .

Construction either here on the jungle farm where we are living or at their house in the community.

Facilities will be used for nursery, English classes, their home and storage, room and board for missionaries.

The construction has been a lot of painting, termite removal, hand mixing of concrete for floors and walls. And when that’s not enough of a workout Steph and I used concrete filled cans for weights.

Some of my fellow teammates built a chicken coop. We got baby chicks and ducks! Unfortunately had to have a funeral for a chick but the rest are alive and well.

We also do house hold chores like cleaning, laundry, and cooking

Saturday –

We do women’s ministry, children’s ministry, and guitar lessons. We have worship, act out the scripture, and lead activities.

Sunday –

We go to church and after play soccer with some of the neighborhood kids. One of the little boys owns a goat that we got to feed plantains and hand milk.

When we have space time we occasional movie night in the cinema with Katy’s projector and legit movie theatre seats. Don’t ask me how they got here lol.

Monday –

Once a week we explore Costa Rica which so far has included:

Swimming in rivers both cold and hot ( from natura hot springs pouring into it)

Exfoliating in volcanic mud

Galloping on horses with Volcán el Arenal in the background.

 Fun times

Tuesday –

Sabbath and rest in God 🙂

So jungle motto I’ve been thriving off of is work hard, play hard.

Prayer requests:

Team and leadership changes are happening in a week so you can be praying for that smooth transition and God equipping us.

Mao our driver needs a new vehicle  for our ministry so that he can give his current van to a different ministry.

Lifting up all the people we have been interacting with here on Saturday.

Prayers for financial needs and foundation strength as we literally build the foundation for our hosts’ future church and school buildings as they bring kingdom here in Costa Rica.

  1. Whoa, Izzie! I am in AWE! Geckos landing on you while you’re eating? Endless bug bites? Baby mice in your beds? I know you can imagine my reactions to any of those circumstances. My level of respect for you has increased once again! You were already at Hero Status, but now you’re at SUPER HERO STATUS!!! I am so proud of you as you continue to do the work of our Lord! Happy Holy Week & HAPPY EASTER, dear Niece o’ Mine! I’m sure it’s going to be one of your most memorable in life. I love you! ~Aunt Shari

P.S. I love seeing all the photos. My favorite is you girls heading off to forage for your food with machetes in hand!
P.P.S. Good luck dealing with all the clutter! (Hint: geckos)

  2. Ellie, you continue to show your shepherd’s heart in how you edify others. I’m so grateful for your posts. They paint such a lifelike picture of G-Squad’s experiences.
I, too, am so proud of you. I love all the photos, especially the one of you wearing a welding helmet and another one of you bearing a machete. Soo cool.
Also, thank you for recognizing the importance of all your hard work, in that it is to bless the kingdom with future ministries.
    Love you.
